Buddleja (Buddleia) lindleyana ‘Floral Fanfare’
Experience the unique beauty of Buddleja lindleyana ‘Floral Fanfare’(Buddleia/Lindley`s butterfly bush). This stunning plant, Raised by Peter Moore, a Longstock introduction: www.bredbypetermoore.co.uk and introduced by Longstock, is unlike any other Buddleja in the world. Its purple-violet flowers are similar to B. lindleyana, but with 95% of them consisting of layers of silky double petals, creating a strikingly beautiful display.
While it can be grown as a shrub, Buddleja lindleyana ‘Floral Fanfare’ is best trained on a short 1m stem to showcase its pendulous flowers in a container or on a patio. Prune in late spring down to 25cm for optimal growth. The flowers are unscented and completely sterile, eliminating the risk of unwanted seedlings. This allows the plant to direct its energy into a long-lasting floral display from July until the end of September.

Growing Advice: While Buddleja can suffer from a few problems, they are easily remedied through proper pruning. Avoid pruning too hard or too early, as this can lead to new shoots growing through the winter and being easily frosted. Instead, prune established plants by a third in October/November and then again in late March/April for optimal growth and flowering. Eelworm can also be an issue, but can be treated by cutting out affected branches or shoots.
A Broader View of the Genus: Buddleja’s are not only beautiful, but also extremely useful shrubs for the garden. They offer a variety of flower types and colours, as well as different sizes. Their flowers attract butterflies and beneficial insects, making them a joy to have in any garden.
