Agapanthus Tinkerbell is a semi-evergreen bulbous perennial from the Liliaceae family, also known as the African Lily. It is a useful plant for any garden, with some varieties being tougher than others. The narrower leaved varieties are generally more hardy, behaving like herbaceous perennials and losing their leaves over winter. The larger leaved varieties, on the other hand, tend to keep their leaves and require protection from frost or are better suited to coastal areas.
This plant is not picky about soil type, but it does require a good situation with plenty of light. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and responds well to a feed from late spring to flowering. To improve flowering, you can restrict the root growth of Agapanthus Tinkerbell. If growing in a pot, do not be concerned if the plant becomes root bound, as it actually responds well to this. Keep the plant dry over winter, but not too dry, and then water and feed weekly once you see active growth in the spring.
Flowering for Agapanthus Tinkerbell occurs between June and September, with flower heads ranging from white to light blue, dark blue, and even purple. Once the flowers have gone over, they will be replaced by hard, large black seeds. To prolong flowering, trim the stems back to the foliage once they have finished blooming.
