Caryopteris incana ‘Sunshine Blue’ (Jason) – Vibrant Foliage & Late-Season Flowers
Golden Leaves, Rich Blue Flowers & Pollinator-Friendly
One of our introductions, found on the nursery here in Somerset by my father Peter Champion and named after me - Jason. On it's introduction the agents handling the royalties suggested to run a competition in a magazine to name it and that is where 'Sunshine Blue' came from. It is widely sold under the name 'Jason'
Caryopteris incana ‘Sunshine Blue’ is a compact, deciduous shrub that brings vibrant colour and late-season interest to the garden. Its striking golden-yellow foliage provides brightness throughout spring and summer, while in late summer and autumn, it produces deep blue flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
This hardy drought-tolerant shrub thrives in sunny borders, gravel gardens, and containers, making it an excellent low-maintenance choice for UK gardens. Its compact size and neat habit make it ideal for small gardens, patios, and wildlife-friendly spaces.
