Geraniums are divided into two types: greenhouse geraniums (officially known as pelargoniums) and hardy perennial geraniums, also known as crane's bill. This particular variety falls into the latter category. Hardy perennial geraniums are easy to grow and make a great addition to any garden border. The genus is vast, ranging from small alpines to large perennials. They are adaptable to most conditions, except for very wet and boggy areas. They can tolerate full sun to semi-shade and typically flower from spring to late summer.
With a low growth habit, Geranium nodosum Svelte Lilac is perfect for ground cover and works well at the front of a border. For more vigorous varieties, trimming back after the first flowering will encourage regrowth and a second round of blooms. In winter, the plant will die back, but a good mulch will provide all the nutrients it needs to shoot back up in the spring. Don't miss out on this unique and beautiful addition to your garden.
