Hesperantha coccinea `Major` (Schizostylis), formerly known as Schizostylis and also known as the `Flag Lily`, is a unique and stunning clump forming bulbous perennial. This plant is perfect for the front or mid border, thriving in full sun to semi-shade. Its light green, blade-like leaves grow to around 60cm, with flower spikes reaching just above the leaves. The crimson flowers of `Major` appear in late summer through autumn, adding a burst of colour to your garden.

This strong variety has a good growth habit and is easily maintained at a height of 60cm and spread of 50cm. Its foliage is a light green, while the flowers are a striking crimson. Hesperantha coccinea `Major` is fully hardy once established, with a hardiness rating of H4 (-5 and below). It is a herbaceous perennial and is supplied in either a 9cm pot or 2 Litre pot.

Hesperantha are bulbous perennials with strap-like leaves and open, cup-shaped flowers. They come in a range of heights, from dwarf varieties at 40cm to the more common 60/80cm. The flower colours vary from strong red to pink, pale pink, and white. These plants thrive in fertile soil and can tolerate full sun to semi-shade. The flowers bloom from late summer to as late as December in mild conditions. Some varieties are evergreen, maintaining foliage all year round.
